Plano ISD uses the Texas State Teacher of the Year guidelines for its Teacher of the Year recognition. Plano ISD classroom teachers who are recognized at the campus level and the district level must meet these criteria so that the district may enter them as eligible contenders in the Region 10, Texas State Teacher of the Year and National Teacher of the Year competitions. Candidates in all categories must hold a valid Texas teaching certificate and be currently teaching at least four hours of the contract day. The types of certificates are: - One Year Certificate
- Probationary Certificate
- Standard Certificate
- Provisional Certificate
- Professional Certificate
- Temporary Certificate
Classroom teachers traditionally receive recognition in this program. Speech pathologists, itinerant special education teachers, counselors and librarians may be nominated if they teach at least four hours of the contract day and meet all other criteria. Diagnosticians, teacher's aides and administrators are not eligible. Candidates must have completed one year of teaching experience on the campus which is nominating. Candidates who were hired at the nominating campus after December 19, 2023, are ineligible. Candidates should be skillful, dedicated teachers who plan to actively continue classroom teaching. They should take an active role in their communities as well as their schools and be professional, poised and articulate. An important criterion in evaluating nominees is the ability to inspire a love of learning in students of all backgrounds.
Please submit this Teacher of the Year nomination, including your letter of recommendation, by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January, 17, 2025.
